KINECTaku Review – The Price is Right Decades

Come on down!

The Price is Right Decades celebrates over 40 years of one of the most beloved game shows of all time. As a tribute to the source material it’s a resounding success; as an actual piece of entertainment software it has a few problems that unfortunately hinder the rest of the experience.

The one-player mode of Decades breaks the experience down into different ‘VHS tapes’ — remember those? — that each represent a year of the show’s history and a particular game that is played by actual contestants. The set, logo and intro text change to accurately reflect how the show actually looked that year; while Avatars are used, their modern clothing clashing with the aesthetic, it’s still a hoot to see how it has evolved over the years. Sadly, Bob Barker and Drew Carey are both absent in the game proper, instead relegated to bonus videos that are unlocked by beating different VHS tapes.

Great Google+y Moogly

I’ve been using Google+ for a few weeks now and I gotta say, I really like it. It combines most of the good things about Twitter and Facebook without a lot of the bullshit that comes along with either. You have the “follow” system of Twitter combined with the comment system of Facebook, and no one’s mom is on it yet!

With yet ANOTHER social media outlet in my utility belt (that I use to keep from having to ever ACTUALLY socialize) I had to think about how I would use Google+. I use Twitter for my random thoughts and to follow people I think are interesting. Facebook is how I keep in contact with friends and family that are scattered all over the place. I decided that I’d use Google+ would be something I’d use as a way to keep in contact with you guys more.

Yes, I know we already have a message board for that. Shhhhhhh.

Nintendo 3DS Hardware Review: I, For One, Welcome Our New Stereoscopic Overlords

The long wait is over and the 3DS has finally arrived at the PK Bloggin’! tower (and by that, I mean Christina and I went and bought them yesterday). We got some brief hands-on time with the handheld a few weeks ago at PAX East, but now we’ve been able to put it through its paces and really see what it can do.

This will be a review of the machine itself as it is right out of the box; game reviews will follow later (and we picked up five of the 18 launch games).

Happy Thanksgiving!

Why is it that in video games, eating a turkey will completely refill your energy, but in real life eating a turkey makes you sluggish and tired?

Anyway, I said I’d give away two copies of Poker Night at the Inventory to two people on my Steam friends list today, so the winners are the only two people on my friends list who DIDN’T have the game, my good friends Syphon and Gavin! Congrats guys, I hope you enjoy the game!

I hope everyone has a great day today, eating too much and hanging out with your loved ones. Enjoy today, it’s the last day of sanity before everyone starts going buck wild for Christmas!

Hey Tech Heads, We Need Some Help!

So when we hooked the Wii up to our new TV, we get this weird, yellowish noise in the form of horizontal lines appearing across the screen. It’s not constant; sometimes it’s a few lines, sometimes it takes up the whole screen. It’s similar to a TV with bad reception. We’ve tried two component cables (set to 480i and 480p), both component inputs on the TV, and both our Wiis… no matter what, we can’t get a picture without the noise.

Does anyone have ANY idea what could be causing it? The Wii is unplayable as it is.

What Happens If I Type Here?

Welcome to PK Bloggin’, the hip-happenin’-ist place on all the interwebs.

Allow me to introduce myself. I am Joe. I am 25 years old. I live in Boston with my fiancee who I think is pretty rad. I am an advocate of video games, anime, hilarity, and other things that I think are awesome. These things include, but are not limited to, ninjas, zombies, zombie ninjas, catapults, guitar solos, Han Solos, Rolos, not acting my age, the soundtrack to EarthBound, writing, overthrowing dictators, Dragon Punches, Falcon Punches, Hawaiian Punches, and the Nintendo 64 controller.

This blog is going to be pretty kickass. You can come here any time you want and read what I have to say, and it’s free. It’s like, you don’t even have to live near me and you get to talk to me whenever. Except it’s more like me talking to you, and you don’t get to say anything back, but if you were talking to me face to face that’s pretty much how it’d go anyway, so I just saved you airfare.

Rather than running a gaming news blog where I give tons of updates you can read practically anywhere else, I’m going to focus more on my experiences and insight. Why are my opinions worth posting on the internet for everyone to see? Because they’re mine. Duh.

If you want to keep up with what’s going on with the site, you can follow me on Twitter, or become a fan on Facebook.

(Also if you’re feeling generous you can always donate through PayPal! :D )

I’m going to talk mainly about video games. Sometimes I’m going to talk about movies and music. Sometimes I’m going to talk about commercials I think are funny. I’m going to talk about whatever I feel like. My writing is the result of what many would call a wasted youth, but I prefer to think of it as preparation for greatness.
