Busy, Dizzy Week

Just a little update, because A) I haven’t written anything this week and B) I REALLY don’t want that Jersey Shore picture on the top of my blog anymore.

I’ve been pretty busy this week! I’m writing this on my lunch break at work if that shows you how much free time I have at home. Christina and I have started up Wii Fit again and eating healthier so we can get in a little better shape before Anime Boston and look all sexified in our cosplays. Eating healthy means cooking more, which takes a bit more time than just eating whatever. I enjoy cooking and playing Wii Fit, so it’s not a chore, it just leaves me with a little less free time each night.

Yesterday the Boston area got hit with a huge blizzard, so Christina’s dad and I were outside for about two and a half hours cleaning up 18 inches of snow. Even with him working the snow blower and me shoveling it was a ton of work. After I finished I didn’t feel like doing anything other than lying on the couch and moaning, so that’s pretty much all I did for the rest of the day. I even had tickets to the Celtics game and we didn’t wind up going.

Tonight and tomorrow we’re having company so I don’t count on really having much time to play video games, much less write about anything entertaining. I like you guys, just not enough to give up a social life so I can write things to put on the internet and not get paid for it. You understand.

If you need something to do, PK Bloggin’! superfan MagicTomato took the initiative and started what looks to be a really exciting roleplaying game on the forum, so check that out. While you’re at it, the rest of the forums could use some love, too.

I promise I’ll have a hilarious opinion about something early next week!

How Do You Measure, Measure a Year

Here we are, PK Bloggin’!s one year anniversary. It’s kind of weird to think that I’ve been doing this for a year, but we had our specialists crunch the numbers several times, and it’s true.

It’s been a pretty good year for me, all things considered. I got married, which was great. The blog has also been a really good thing for me, because it got me writing on a regular basis again, which is something I hadn’t done since high school despite it being something I really enjoy.

It was fun to back through and see how much I’ve written this year and how much the blog itself has changed. I’ve written 157 posts, which you guys have commented on 836 times. I think that’s pretty rad!

I thought I’d take this opportunity to look back and re-introduce you to some of my favorite posts over the past year. If you’ve been here since the beginning, I hope you still find them interesting, and if you’re a newer reader, this is a good opportunity to catch up on all the comedy gold you missed while you were doing other, less awesome things.

Falling Off the Radar

Hey folks! Quick update, since things are CA-RAZY around here right now, what with people flying in from all sides of the country. We are in FULL WEDDING COUNTDOWN mode, so I’ll probably be COMPLETELY off the radar for a few days except for the random tweet here and there, which is really how it’s been for a couple of weeks anyway… but still.

I want to thank you all for being so patient. I definitely plan on returning to regular updates next week, because Christina and I are pretty excited to return to life’s normal pace and be able to finally PLAY VIDEO GAMES AGAIN. Also, we have new phones now (Droid Incredibles, to be exact) so while we do have time between the wedding and honeymoon, I could theoretically make blog posts on the road, which I might do.

If you want to keep up with what’s going on you can always follow me (or Christina) on Twitter. I might not have time to write about video games but I can always take a few seconds to tweet now that I have an awesome phone.

Also, if you have an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 download Costume Quest. It is a FANTASTIC game.

I have a neat little thing planned for this weekend so keep an eye on the blog. Regular updates resume next week so I’ll see you then!

Ch-ch-ch-changes

Today is a monumental today. As of today, PK Bloggin’! will cease to exist.

Well, kinda. It’s going to cease to exist in its current form.

As of today, July 5th 2010, PK Bloggin’! is no longer a video game blog. I’ve been thinking about this a lot over the past few days, and honestly, I think it’s a good decision for me and for the blog itself.

To be honest, I am not nearly as into video games as I used to be. Right now I’m 26 years old, planning on getting married in about two months, and I work a full-time job. I just don’t have the TIME to be as into games as I used to. Not even just that, but reading Kotaku and its commenters I find that I’m pretty disconnected from what today’s gaming culture has evolved into. Not that that means that there’s anything wrong with today’s games or even anything wrong with me, I’m just in a different place than I was a few years ago.

Short Hiatus!

Hey all. My mom is coming into town for a few days from the distant land of Florida. I haven’t seen my mom for two years so I’m pretty excited. All you teenagers who think it’s not cool to hang out with your parents, enjoy it, because some day you might live in different states!

I think it goes without saying (but I’ll say it anyway) that I won’t be updating until Monday. Maybe Tuesday. Then it’ll be back to normal with posts and podcasts and such.

To keep you entertained in the meantime, I present to you the YouTube sensation Guile’s theme goes with everything.

REMINDER: IRC Chat During Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference Tomorrow

Hey all, just a reminder that I’ll be hanging out in the IRC channel tomorrow during Nintendo’s press conference if you want to hang out and discuss what they’re going to be showing off. With the Nintendo 3DS set to be shown tomorrow, it’s going to be an exciting time!

The channel is #pkbloggin and is on the DarkMyst server. If you’re having any trouble connecting, send me an email at [email protected] and I’ll do my best to guide you through it. Once the conference starts, though, I’m going to be focused on that, so be there early!

The conference is scheduled for tomorrow at 9am pacific/12 noon eastern. I’ll be there early and I’ll be hanging out after too. See you there!

I’ve Got Some ‘Splainin to Do

So I feel like I owe you guys a bit of an explanation.

The blog has sucked lately. I haven’t really written anything interesting outside of the California game bill article in a while. Honestly, the last REAL article I wrote before that was the Pokémon article on April 12, and that was almost a month ago.

Sure, I was working on setting up the forums and things like that, but to be honest when it came time to sit down and write, I had NOTHING. I couldn’t think of anything to write about, so I’d just write about Rescue Rangers or F-Zero music or something like that. Those posts are fine, because this is still a personal gaming blog. However, having so many of those posts at once was, at least for me, inexcusable. But, I am my own worst critic.

(Yes I started a sentence with the word “but” and I know it’s wrong but I write how I talk so I’m leaving it.)

I Can Has Forum?

Hey we have a forum now! Woo! I’ve been getting a lot more “conversation” comments on the blog posts, and a lot of you have even been talking to each other in the comments. I have the Facebook page, and I have the Twitter, but I realized that if I really wanted to build a community, I’d need a forum. And now I have one! Hooray!

There’s literally NOTHING posted right now. It’s up to you guys to make it interesting! THE PRESSURE IS ON.

Enjoy, and I’ll see you around the boards!

Sell Out With Me Tonight

Big surprise revealed! We have merchandise now!

If you notice on the left sidebar, there’s a new Merchandise page! We currently have three t-shirts for sale, all designed by the lovely and talented Christina! Two are inspired by the hit game Mass Effect, the third is based on my Some Kinda Knucklehead GameStop story. We’re really excited about them! Each shirt also comes with a 1″ button, perfect for any bag or purse!

They’re currently in pre-order status, because we need to know what sizes to order for our initial shipment before we send them off to the printers. More details are on the Merch page.

We hope you enjoy them! Spread the word!

Virus Alert, Delete Immediately Before Someone Gets Hurt

Aside from being a great Weird Al song, the headline applies to our evening so far. Somehow, we’ve gotten a virus on our computer. It doesn’t seem to be malicious, but Christina’s been wrestling with it for the past few hours and it doesn’t look like we’ll be able to get the podcast done tonight. I’ll post a special weekend article to make up for it, which will cover what the podcast was SUPPOSED to be about, and we’ll have Big Surprise 2 ready on Monday!

I hate missing a podcast, but circumstances are against me tonight. Our sincerest apologies.
