Take Cover

Christina and I have been thinking a lot about our future game room after cleaning out the game closet not long ago and I decided we should get dust sleeves for our NES and SNES games that didn’t already have covers, so I pulled them all out today to count how many naked carts we had. I just felt like sharing the pictures.

  1. I’m not wild about dust covers. On top of the fact it would be fiscally hilarious for me to try to get enough for all my NES games, I just don’t think they are too important. I particularly am not a fan of the SNES’ because it makes the games considerably wider and causes them to no longer be stackable evenly. If you have ample room it makes more sense, but as you run out of it you’ll realize how much more you can fit without them (I would be able to fit 38 less NES games on my shelves if they all had dust covers, for example.)

We want them mainly just to protect the games themselves. Let’s face it, these carts aren’t getting any younger and we want to protect them. We don’t have a permanent storage solution for them yet (right now they’re in a giant plastic storage bin from Target) so we haven’t had an stacking issues yet.

For NES games, though, we’ve found that stacking them in dust sleeves actually makes it EASIER to keep them organized, because you can pull a cart out of the sleeve without disrupting the rest of the stack. When you’re done, it’s super easy to slide it back in as well. We’ll see if we still feel the same way when we actually have shelving for them, though.
