Joint Custody

So as you guys know, my goal, ever since I was a little kid, was to be a video games writer. Now, I will realize that goal, as I am now the North American Nintendo writer for Bits ‘n’ Bytes Gaming.

It’s not a paid position or anything, but I’ve been following their Editor-in-Chief Martin for a while and he’s put together a very impressive news blog with a very talented staff in a short amount of time. They’re not as big as Kotaku or Joystiq, but I feel like they definitely have a shot at it, and I’m very honored to be a part of the team.

However, despite me writing for another blog, PK Bloggin’! is NOT going anywhere.

PK Bloggin’! always was, and will continue to be, my personal blog. I’m not going to abandon it because I have a position at a news blog. I won’t be able to write the same things there that I do here, and I don’t want to give that up.

I’m very proud of this blog and very thankful for the people I’ve met through it. I’m still going to post stupid crap here frequently. How am I supposed to become an internet personality without this place as an outlet?

So yeah. Things will be different, but not too different. Make sure you bookmark Bits ‘n’ Bytes to keep up with what me and the rest of the staff have to say!

Copyright Infringement is Awesome

I love our generation. We’re really breaking out of corporate tradition and making things fun.

So one of the stamp vendors Christina deals with for her job brought everyone at her office a calendar with their company’s branding on it, and every month they take a retro video game screenshot and work in their products, like stamps and inks and what have you. The result is a pretty badass calendar that I couldn’t wait to hang up.

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Someone obviously put A LOT of work into these. Click on any image to embiggen it!

Cereal Killers

Kids in cereal commercials are the shittiest people in the world. If they are an indicator of who will be leading our country in 50 years, we are all doomed.

We spend all this time and energy trying to teach kids how to share, and then they can’t even let the Trix rabbit have a bowl of his own cereal. “Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids!” Shut up and go to jail, you little shit. It’s his cereal. His face is on the box. How DARE you take it from him.

Is it Game Over?

This is a serious post. I say “serious” in a way that doesn’t necessarily mean serious in the traditional sense, because I’m going to discuss something that many people would consider stupid bullshit in a serious tone.

Anyway, right now I feel like I’m struggling to find my identity as a gamer. My life is VASTLY different than it was five years ago, and now that things are more or less the way they’re going to be until Christina and I decide to have a kid, I’m really trying to come to terms with where video games fit in my life.

When I was younger I played video games all the time. I don’t mean “younger” like a teenager, either. When I lived on my own, when I was at home I had a controller in my hand and I was playing a video game. The rate at which I consumed electronic entertainment back then was staggering in retrospect. I had disposable income and no one to tell me how to spend it, not to mention the perk of working at GameStop and being able to take home games as a “rental” whenever I wanted. It was never something I had to think about. I played video games.

Now, though, at times it almost feels like a chore to pick up a controller and start playing, and that scares me.

New Look, Same Great Taste

You’ll notice things look different around here. You may also notice that your eyes no longer bleed when you type my URL into your address bar!

The color scheme before was my attempt to make the entire site look like the “What’s Your Name?” screen from EarthBound, and it did look like that. Unfortunately I didn’t take into consideration that you look at that screen for all of sixty seconds, whereas I’m hoping people come here EVERY DAY. I was asking too much of you, dear friends, and for that I am truly sorry.

But seriously, Christina is working on a new layout for me (since she’s the artistic one, I’m just good with words) but it’s a ways off since she has her own projects she’s working on, so I wanted to just change the color scheme in the interim. Honestly though… I like it. It made more of a difference than I thought it would. Maybe I’ll keep it this way?

Anyway, let me know what you think, although I don’t imagine many of you will be clamoring for me to bring back the internet equivalent of staring directly into a solar eclipse.

Busy, Dizzy Week

Just a little update, because A) I haven’t written anything this week and B) I REALLY don’t want that Jersey Shore picture on the top of my blog anymore.

I’ve been pretty busy this week! I’m writing this on my lunch break at work if that shows you how much free time I have at home. Christina and I have started up Wii Fit again and eating healthier so we can get in a little better shape before Anime Boston and look all sexified in our cosplays. Eating healthy means cooking more, which takes a bit more time than just eating whatever. I enjoy cooking and playing Wii Fit, so it’s not a chore, it just leaves me with a little less free time each night.

Yesterday the Boston area got hit with a huge blizzard, so Christina’s dad and I were outside for about two and a half hours cleaning up 18 inches of snow. Even with him working the snow blower and me shoveling it was a ton of work. After I finished I didn’t feel like doing anything other than lying on the couch and moaning, so that’s pretty much all I did for the rest of the day. I even had tickets to the Celtics game and we didn’t wind up going.

Tonight and tomorrow we’re having company so I don’t count on really having much time to play video games, much less write about anything entertaining. I like you guys, just not enough to give up a social life so I can write things to put on the internet and not get paid for it. You understand.

If you need something to do, PK Bloggin’! superfan MagicTomato took the initiative and started what looks to be a really exciting roleplaying game on the forum, so check that out. While you’re at it, the rest of the forums could use some love, too.

I promise I’ll have a hilarious opinion about something early next week!

What Happens in Jersey Should Stay in Jersey

>I try to be a positive person. I try to find a little bit of enjoyment in everything and the things I can’t I just leave alone. Last night, though, I met my match as an optimist.

The “leaving things you don’t like alone” trait is something I’ve tried to rub off on Christina, and it has, so last night when we were channel surfing she had the bright idea to watch Jersey Shore. She knows some people who like to watch it so she felt like she needed to give it a fair shake before she made fun of it.

Sometimes I wish I would keep my mouth shut.

Hanging From a Telephone Wire

I’m not trying to sound like I’m bragging or anything, but I like to think that I’m a pretty good person. I’m honest, I don’t steal, I always try to help out people when I can and I rarely put my needs in front of those of others. Despite this, I’m actually a pretty good liar.

I don’t lie to hurt people or to hide anything I’ve done, because I am of Lawful Good alignment and that goes against my moral code. I’m actually really bad at that, which sucked when I was a teenager because I could never sneak around anywhere because whenever I’d tell a lie to my mom I’d feel awful about it and fess up ten minutes later. No, I lie to entertain, not to manipulate.

I like to think up little stories and get people to believe them, and Christina and her sister fall for them EVERY time. I don’t really know how I got started with it, but sometimes a little fact will pop into my head and I make up reasoning for it and try to convince them it’s true.
