Awaaaaaay Wii Go

I mentioned it on the last podcast, but we have to send our Wii off to Nintendo for repairs. This is the first time I’ve ever had to send a system away for a repair, and I’m kinda nervous about it.

Whenever we try to load up the Wii Shop Channel, the whole system just reboots. I have no idea why. It literally worked one day and stopped working the next. A Google search for some kind of remedy showed that it’s a common problem, but only on systems that have been modified, which our system is not.

I called Nintendo’s tech support and they walked me through the usual “idiot” remedies (make sure you have an internet connection selected, yadda yadda yadda) and since it’s an unknown issue they’re going to repair it for free.

The thing is, though, I’ve had this system since launch day. It’s the first console I’ve ever gotten on launch day. I camped out all day for it (well, not really. I had it preordered AND I worked at the store, so it was really just me hanging out all day). I get really attached to things, and this Wii console means a lot to me.

Christina’s folks had to send in their Wii for repairs not too long ago (it wouldn’t boot up at all) and they got it back quickly with no issues. I’m just terrified that I’m going to lose my save data. We have everything we can back up on our SD card, but certain things, like Animal Crossing, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and My Pokémon Ranch are unable to be copied.

Of course, this happens right after Super Mario Galaxy 2 comes out.

Nintendo has a quick turnaround on repairs, and I know they’re going to take good care of my system and its save data. Right now, though, I feel like a parent who’s sending their kid off to the doctor, only the doctor my have to brainwash him before he comes home.

Just breathe deeply and tell yourself it’ll all be all right. ;)

  2. This has been happening A LOT to Wiis. A lot of my friends have sent in their Wiis for repairs and so have a lot of people online. Usually it’s a disc reading problem. It’s like the Wii’s version of the Red Ring of Death. My Wii had disc reading problems at once too, but somehow, it fixed itself… :/

Well, it’s not a disc reading problem, and it’s functioning perfectly except for the Shop Channel. It’s the weirdest thing.

  4. Don’t worry about it. Your save data should be fine and intact.

Bummer that this happened right when SMG2 came out. :(
