Gunstar Heroes is what brought me to this blog! So many childhood memories, wrapped up in a neat little bundle of combineable guns!!
Since the last time you suggested Earthbound, I have started playing it. Despite my childhood being pretty much over, it's still charming.
On an icky note, Mario 64 was a bane, an annoyer of my childhood. I couldn't get all the stars(for yoshi) and mario was such a slow character.. I guess I liked those 2D sidescrollers better.
Lastly, I'm with you on sapphire, for the same reason : ) It opened my world to pokemon gaming, I was too skittish to buy the gameboy color sets. Although, now, I have a stack of them from a flea market, ha ha
If I'd add one to your list, it'd be DinoCrisis II. : ) A very good shooter, with a neat story and game concepts for its time. Ah, and Suikoden I, my love : ) most heart-wrenching story I have ever played.

I'm starting to think the only constant in Final Fantasy is change. I think the Final Fantasy name just means "high quality JRPG" as opposed to something like "Dragon Quest" which means "turn based, lots of grinding, and Slimes."

I just got FFXIII...it doesn't feel like a FF game at all. Well maybe a little, but only because it has FF looking characters, chocobos, cactuars, and summons.

No Mega Man has been as good as Mega Man 2 for me... 3 was pretty close though.

In 1997, it was SO COOL when Final Fantasy came on 3 discs. Now, in 2010, everyone throws a big hissy fit. I still think it's cool.

See, in my opinion, the reason FFVII has become so revolutionary is the time in which it was released. It did something no other game did before it - 3 discs, with a constantly intriguing storyline, none of which crappy sidequests. Not to mention the materia system had absolutely 0 flaws in my opinion...

Pretty solid list. I'd have to say I agree with you mostly, except I'd probably have to replace PSO with Megaman X4. That was the entire reason why I even like Megaman games at all.

HEY!! I don't like FPS either! :D
Also, this is a comment on Final Fantasy VII. A lot of people say that it's overrated...and it kinda is. A lot of other FFs are just as good, sometimes better, than VII. But VII has become soooo popular that the other FFs are forgotten. If you were to ask someone to name an FF character, their response would most likely be Cloud or Sephiroth. FFVII is still an amazing game though, it's one of my top 3 favorite FFs including IV and VI. But I can't really see how VII was BEST. It's excellent, but I don't know about best. Jeez, I just keep criticizing your list don't I? Well thumbs up for Super Mario 64 and OoT, I respect that. :)

I don't really like first-person shooters, Portal is awesome but falls under my "no current-gen" rule, and Zelda is left out because of the "one game per series" clause. :)

NeonJ - I totally forgot to put that in my "honorable mentions". I love Animal Crossing, and I owe a lot of great things in my life to it, but I do get bored of it rather easily, having done the song and dance three times now. I'd love to read your list, though.
